Nashville or ... Swim

We said that we would move to Nashville at the end of May... God willing, and the creeks don't rise... but the water is rising.

For the first time in 3 years, our basement is flooded. All of the moving boxes that we packed then stacked in the basement have now been re-stacked on wooden pallets in an effort to keep them from becoming large piles of stuff encased in soggy cardboard. Luckily, all of the metal tools, shop equipment, etc. (i.e. things that rust) are safe in Nashville at Mark's house. Unluckily, the canoe is also in Nashville; it would be very helpful for getting around the basement if it doesn't quit raining.

We are trying to stay optimistic, and continue to look on the bright side. For instance, the sun has come out for a moment, and the water level hasn't risen in the past hour. However, optimism will not stop a sunami, and the forecast calls for more rain this afternoon.

And now we have a new problem.

It seems that something has gone awry with the sewer lines. Crystal first noticed this problem when she tried to wash a batch of clothes; the floor-drain plug blew out like a cork in a toy gun, and we had a geyser in the middle of our basement. It looked like a reflecting pool and fountain, accentuating the monument to our moving experience. Needless to say, the toilet is “
off limits.”

I haven't asked Crystal yet, but I have a hunch that she would prefer to stay at the local motel tonight. Regardless, I'm certain that I do NOT want to stay in a flooded house with a woman who can't go to the bathroom.

Well, the neighbor is here with a Pipe Snake, so I guess I will go downstairs and humble myself with a futile attempt to restore order to the household. If that doesn't work, I'll open the box that has the snorkeling gear in it and go for an afternoon swim.
